Public Reading of Scripture (PRS)

The Classical Conversations® Foundation is partnering with Public Reading of Scripture (PRS) to promote the regular reading of the Bible online with other individuals and families regardless of location. You can learn more about them at https://www.prsi.org/.

How does it work?

The goal is to have people experience a virtual public reading of Scripture by joining one of PRS’s weekly groups via Zoom, or for organizations to create their own weekly groups using one of the PRS audio reading plans.

The readings usually include a selection from the Old and New Testaments and close with a reading from the Psalms. There are four reading plans to choose from; choose the best reading plan for your schedule.

Why should we do public reading of Scripture?

The Bible provides many examples demonstrating the importance of the public reading of Scripture.

  • Moses (Exodus 24:3–8)
  • Jesus (Luke 4:16–21)
  • Paul (1 Timothy 4:13)

We are losing our Christian culture. Uniting as a community of believers around the public reading of Scripture can help us reclaim and strengthen our Christian culture. – Leigh Bortins, founder of Classical Conversations

It is common for people to desire to read the Bible more frequently, but often find it difficult to maintain a consistent Bible reading plan on their own. Many people have discovered that the public reading of Scripture is a strategy that works. One can go through the entire Bible in about two years by listening to the one-hour weekly session sponsored by PRS.

Why public reading of Scripture now?

With modern technology, we have the ability to unite people from different places around the world at the same time in the public reading of Scripture. In addition, technology allows us to utilize high quality dramatized audio recordings of Scripture that make Bible reading more interesting and engaging.

How to get started with PRS

Individuals interested in participating with the PRS group are asked to provide their email address and will receive a Zoom link for their weekly one-hour public reading sessions.

Go to https://www.prsi.org/attend/ and scroll to the bottom of the page to enter your email address.

Host your own public reading of Scripture using a PRS dramatized audio Bible
